DEAR '56 CLASSMATE,

The events of our 50th class reunion in June 2006 were attended by close to 90 people including spouses and teachers.   Saturday's lunch barbeque prepared by Ron Brown, Sam Brown and Bob Moro took place at the Front Street Lakeside Park on Saturday.  John Hoey (with help from Tim Horton) provided hot coffee, delicious sweets and overhead protection from the sun.  The weather was glorious and the noise level deafening.  There was barely enough time after lunch for a change of clothing and back to the Oakville Club.

It's said that some things never change. Well the Oakville Club is one of those things! One could swear that not a stick of furniture has changed, and that the bridge tables have been inhabited by the same players for the past 50 years.  Over dinner and dancing, we met and greeted and told lots of stories - many 'enriched' by the passing of time. Bruce Alexander, acting as emcee, got  heartful renditions of "Palma Non Sine Pulvere" and “Coeur de mon Coeur” out of the crowd. He reminded us that the school song was written by Rice Honeywell - a graduate of the '50's.  He paid tribute to those in the class who have died. All this to our favourite music of the '50's provided by Carl Conn (Liz Black Lloyd).  We remembered Hagood Hardy who gave so much to the world of music in so short a time.  A 91 year old Hugh Brearly stood up and talked for about ten minutes about his experiences as a teacher, but what he remembered most was what a great class we were.. thank you, Mr Brearly!  Lillian Fulford’s speech was equally complimentary and by the way, couldn't she just pass for one of us?  Irene Smart Carswell made it to the picnic looking very ‘smart’ indeed.

Deborah Graydon Macleod, Joan Hotson Gordon, Frances Fearman Cushing with help from all the committee ensured that old photos and posters were displayed and tables decorated beautifully.  Kay Merry Stanton and Carol Reid Prince took care of the overall arrangements and bookings.  Ross Prince took a zillion wonderful photos which will be mounted on a website as soon as this writer catches up with the technology.

The '56 class list from 2006 will be maintained by me for our class only.  Let me know of your address or e-mail changes.  Send me a note if you want to contact a classmate.
